Interesting. I’ll have to track down the books by Larrain. Based on a brief review of Larrain, it appears that both he and McCarney emphasize that for Marx and Engels ideology had a negative connotation. Ideology as forms of thought that serve ruling class interests by concealing or inverting real social contradictions. Looking forward to your take.

I finished the Larrain books. His restricted and negative understanding of ideology seems closer to Marx’s. Thanks for turning me on to these.
